A Brother Makes His Final Trip Home
A troubled 25-year-old Hilbert, Wiconsin man is staring down the barrel of a homicide charge after he drove his car head-on through a group of motorcyclists Thursday afternoon in Fond du Lac.
A friend, a brother and a fellow rider is dead.
But Sunday all that was shoved aside as hundreds of riders gathered to welcome that rider, Daniel Winsemius, 59, of the Muskegon Motorcycle Gang, home for the last time.
The suspect and the man at the center of the horror in Wisconsin, is in fair condition at Theda Clark Medical Center in Fond du Lac County. The Sheriff’s Office said the driver’s car crossed the centerline into the path of the riders while he traveled south on State Highway 151 around 3 p.m. near the Town of Taycheedah. Authorities say charges of felony bail jumping and homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle will be lodged against the man and he will be taken into custody immediately the moment he’s released from the hospital. A sample of the man’s blood has been sent to the Wisconsin State Crime Lab. The man thought to be responsible for the crash has two pending criminal cases in Calumet County which involve felony bail jumping, possession of THC, possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. Online court records reveal that, despite his troubled past and scrapes with the law, the man was not forced to spend any time in jail while those cases are pending.
He has prior criminal convictions on drug-related offenses and a burglary, and perhaps most telling, authorities say he also has more than four operating with a suspended license traffic offenses.
But Sunday was about welcoming home a brother and paying respect to his family and friends.
Riders from around the area gathered in Muskegon’s Lakeside district as the Lake Express Ferry brought Daniel home to his friends. Muskegon Motorcycle Gang members accompanied his body to the funeral home where his life will be celebrated. Services are scheduled for this coming Saturday…
