Curtiss Motorcycles has now presented its second electric motorcycle: the extravagantly designed Hades.
The bike’s powerful electric motor has an output of 162 kW and prominently holds a 16.8 kWh battery and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque. But to reduce the Hades to its key data does not do justice to the bike’s design, which will probably be the main reason motorbike riders will want to buy this electric motorcycle.
At 16.8 kWh, the Hades has the largest battery ever used in a motorcycle – the Harley-Davidson LiveWire has about 15.5 kWh with just 80 kW, compared to the Hades’ 162 kW. And while the Harley’s battery has been put in the large cuboid box, the Hades has found a very eye-catching solution. Whether the free-floating battery construction will still be as stable after 50,000 kilometres or what the heavy battery will do to the mount with such a long linkage and heavy bending load remains to be seen.
Curtiss Motorcycles is currently crowdfunding the production of the bike and recently met its funding goal. Production is scheduled to start in 2020 and the Hades will cost a proud 75,000 dollars.
Curtiss only recently opened the order books for its first model, the Zeus. The Zeus (starting at $60,000) is the first model since Confederate Motorcycles was renamed Curtiss Motorcycles in September 2017. The manufacturer had declared electric two-wheelers to be its new focus. The name Curtiss is a tribute to the motorcycle and aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss.
